Andrei Tchmil

Andrej Tschmil ( in Belgium: Andreï Tchmil; born January 22, 1963 in Khabarovsk, Soviet Union ) is a former professional cyclist, the Belgian citizenship adopted in 1998. He belonged to the typical " classic hunters ".

Driver Profile and athletic development

Andrej Tschmil is a typical representative of the first generation of professionals from the former Eastern bloc countries. His first team Alfa Lum was also the first Soviet professional team (that went though under Italian license). After his conversion to the professional he needed some time initially to occupy top positions in the classic race. The most successful he was as a member of the Belgian Lotto team, which also greatly helped that he took the Belgian citizenship in 1998. At the Giro d' Italia, in which he participated twice, he went rather unremarkable.

Andrej Tschmil is a typical all-rounder, but could prove top places in the sprint again. He is a fast hard drivers. Over time, he developed a good sense tactically favorable situation, which he used consistently - such as in his Milan-San Remo victory in 1999 when he consistently jumped just before the finish and the whole big-name competitors duped.

Of the five " monuments of cycling ," he won three, in addition to the aforementioned Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders and Paris -Roubaix - more podium places round his performance as classics from hunters. In 1991, Andrej Tschmil last Soviet champion before the dissolution of the Soviet Union was decided on 8 December 1991.

A fall in the three days of De Panne 2002 forced him to end his career. Later, he served as team manager of the team chocolate Jacques.

Professional

Since August 2006, Andrej Tschmil Sports Minister of Moldova since 2008 and manager of the UCI ProTeam Katusha. Mid- September 2011, it was announced that Hans -Michael Holczer will succeed Tschmil at Katjuscha from January 2012. 2013 Tschmil ran for the presidency of the European Cycling Federation, but was defeated in the vote to the President of the French Federation FFC, David Lappartient.
