Pierino Gavazzi

Pier Mattia " Pierino " Gavazzi ( born December 4, 1950 in Provaglio d' Iseo, Brescia ) is an Italian former road bicycle racer and former sports director.

Pierino Gavazzi was a professional cyclist from 1973 to 1992 and one of the dominant sprinter in the peloton. The greatest success of his long career was the victory at Milan - Sanremo in 1980 Thrice - 1978., 1982 and 1988 - he also became Italian champion in the road race. As a sprinter, he won numerous stages and achieve top rankings in ratings points of tours.

From 2006 to 2009 Gavazzi was sports director of the cycling team Amore & Vita- McDonald's.

Pierino Gavazzi is the father of cyclist Mattia Gavazzi and Nico. He is not related to the professional cyclist Francesco Gavazzi.
