Franco Ballerini ( born December 11, 1964 in Florence, † February 7, 2010 in Pistoia ) was an Italian professional cyclist since 2001 and Head of the Italian cycling team until his tragic death in 2010 Ballerini his professional career had begun in 1986 and finished it. on 15 April 2001 with the Paris- Roubaix.

The Italian was a classic hunter, who celebrated his greatest successes in the spring classics. Overall, he started for example, 13 times at Paris- Roubaix and won it twice.

As head of the wheel - national team, he was also able to celebrate successes. Ballerini led Mario Cipollini (2002), Paolo Bettini (2006, 2007) and Alessandro Ballan (2008) as a team leader to the world title. Paolo Bettini also was 2004 Olympic gold medalist.

1996 Ballerini won the Grand Prix de Wallonie, but was tested positive for ephedrine and locked for doping for 20 days.
