Veyrier-du-Lac
Veyrier -du -Lac is a municipality in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Geography
Veyrier- du- Lac is located at 500 m above sea level. M., about five kilometers southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The village stretches of exposed location on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, at the foot of Mont Veyrier and Mont Baret, which are among the Bornes Alps.
The area of 8.21 square kilometers municipal area includes a section on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy. In the area of Veyrier -du -Lac, Lake Front is relatively flat, only in the far north there are steeper riverside areas. To the east, the municipality's area extends over the first gently rising slope of Veyrier to Mont Veyrier, on with 1291 meters above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Veyrier is achieved. The mountain is crowned by a characteristic rocky slope. South of the Mont Veyrier closes the ridge of Mont Baret at ( 1243 m above sea level. M. ).
To Veyrier -du -Lac addition to the actual center also includes the settlements:
- Chavoire (470 m above sea level. M. ) on the lakeshore north of Veyrier -du -Lac then
- Morat (510 m above sea level. M. ) at the western foot of Mont Baret south to Veyrier -du -Lac then
Neighboring communities of Veyrier -du- Lac Annecy- le -Vieux in the North, Alex in the east, Menthon -Saint -Bernard in the south and Sévrier and Annecy in the west.
History
The territory of Veyrier -du -Lac has been inhabited since the Neolithic period and during the Roman period. In the Middle Ages Veyrier is first mentioned. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Verius or Virius and means something like estate of Verius / Virius. Until 1901 the town was called Vairier - d'Annecy, then the present name has been introduced. Since the second half of the 19th century Veyrier -du -Lac, thanks to its beautiful location and the mild climate, a popular haunt of painters and writers.
Attractions
The parish church was built in the Gothic Revival style. Of the secular buildings are the Château de la Ruaz from the 16th century, the Château de Fésigny to mention.
Population
With 2272 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Veyrier- du- Lac is one of the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s was due to the attractive residential location and close to Annecy has noted a significant increase in population. Outside the old town center and on the mountain slopes, numerous new single-family houses and villas were built.
Economy and infrastructure
Veyrier -du -Lac was to the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Today, there are some operations of small and medium enterprises. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, particularly in Annecy their work. Thanks to its beautiful lakeside location and the mild climate, Veyrier -du -Lac has developed in recent decades into a holiday resort. Also the day tourism plays a significant role. The operation of the cable car from Veyrier -du -Lac Mont Veyrier was discontinued in 2001.
The place is a good infrastructure. It lies on the main road D909 which leads from Annecy to Thones. Another regionally important road connection along the eastern shore of Lake Annecy with Doussard. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of about ten kilometers.
