Vidyayevo

Widjajewo (Russian Видяево ) the settlement of a naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet on the Kola Peninsula in the Barents Sea in the Murmansk Oblast. The town has 5771 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

The enclosed village is located 80 km east of the Norwegian border and 30 km north- northwest of the city of Murmansk on the river near the western Uriza Ura Bay ( Ura -Guba ). 20 km west lies the closed city Saosjorsk.

The city serves as a settlement for the two base ports 2 km north of the Ura - bay and 6 kilometers north of the Ara Bay.

Widjajewo was founded on July 31, 1958, and initially named after the river Uriza. On July 6, 1964, the settlement in honor of the U- boat commander in World War II Fyodor Widjajew ( Фёдор Алексеевич Видяев ) has been renamed.

Head of the city administration is Sergei Mikhailovich Dubowoi ( Сергей Михайлович Дубовой ).

Widjajewo was the home port of the decline in 2000, the submarine K -141 Kursk. President Vladimir Putin visited Widjajewo after the disaster relatively late, making it the displeasure of the Russian public drew upon.
