Viola Poley

Viola Poley, after marriage Viola Kowal Schek, ( born April 13, 1955 in Berlin) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic, the Olympic champion and world champion quadruple scull was.

Poley began as Wanderruderin and then the BSG Empor joined Brandenburg Gate on. After their talent was recognized, it was delegated to SC Berlin- Grunau. In 1974 she took the sculls second place in the East German championship in 1975, she was again second, this time with Sybille Tietze in the double sculls. In 1976 she moved before the Olympic Games in Montreal in the quadruple sculls, and replaced the two-time world champion Ursula Unger. Together with Anke Borchmann, Jutta Lau, Roswietha Zobelt tax and wife Liane Weigelt she won in Montreal in front of the boats from the USSR and from Romania. For this victory, she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

After her marriage to the rowers Günter Kowal shek in 1977, she won her only East German champion. At the World Championship moved to the GDR Championship still Sybille Tietze into the boat.
