Virginia Berasategui

Virginia Berasategui Luna (born 15 July 1975) is a former Basque triathlete and Ironman champion (2004, 2005).

Career

Her father Javier Berasategui was a triathlete and he started as the first Spanish athlete at Ironman Hawaii.

Virginia Berasategui in 1997 and again in 2002 third in the ITU World Cup in 2003 and then World Champion Long Distance triathlon (4 km swimming, 120 km cycling and 30 km running).

In 2005, she tested positive for the Ironman Lanzarote on EPO - the results but were later canceled. In 2009 she was in Prague European Champion over the Long Distance Triathlon in November at the world championships in Hawaii she reached the third place. In August 2010, she was third in the Long Distance World Championships ITU in Immenstadt.

In May 2013, it was found guilty of doping in triathlon in Bilbao. In June, she claimed to have taken illicit substances, to dispense with a B sample and to finish their triathlon career.

Today, Virginia Berasategui lives in Bilbao.
