Karen Smyers

Karen Smyers ( born September 1, 1961 in Corry ) is a former American triathlete.

Career

Smyers grew up in Wethersfield, Connecticut, and in her youth she was active swimmer. In 1984 she played her first triathlon and 1995 she was gain on Hawaii Triathlon World Champion on the Ironman distance and only two weeks later she was in Mexico and the world title to the Olympic distance. The following year she was also long -distance world champion.

In 2008 she was honored by the U.S. Association in the newly established Hall of Fame of the triathlon as the first woman for their successes. She reached seven U.S. titles in triathlon and duathlon once.

She now lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts, is married to screenwriter Michael Patrick King. Smyers trains the professional triathlete Dede Griesbauer.
