Greg Welch

Greg Welch ( born January 1, 1966 in Campsie / Sydney as Gregory John Welch ) is a former Australian duathlete, triathlete and multiple world champion (1990, 1993, 1994 and 1996).

Career

He was one of the best triathletes in the 1990s and also won the " Grand Slam" consisting of Olympic Distance Triathlon World Championships (1990 ), Duathlon World Championships (1993 ), Ironman Triathlon World Championships (1994) and the Long Course Triathlon World Championships (1996).

In the spring of 1997, the blood disease hemochromatosis was found during a routine examination, which forced him to take a break. In 1999, he had to end his professional career after a cardiac arrhythmia ( ventricular tachycardia ) was found with him.

He was inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame in 2005. Grew Welch is married to the former professional triathlete Sian Welch, now lives in San Diego and he trains today, the Australian triathlete Kate Major.
