Dave Scott (triathlete)

Dave Scott ( born January 4, 1954 in the U.S.) is an American former triathlete who won the Ironman Hawaii six times (1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987 ), which according to him, only his strongest competitor Mark Allen managed with just six wins. His nickname is The Man.

Career

Scott has coined the triathlon like no other and his duels with Mark Allen contributed much to the popularity of this sport, especially in the United States, at. Dave Scott finished well in 1983 in Kona, Hawaii in just 33 seconds ahead of his compatriot Scott Tinley and thus keeps the closest decision for men.

Scott held seven years the world record as the fastest triathlete on the Ironman distance with 8:01:32 hours. This time was only at Ironman Europe 1996 undercut by the German Lothar Leder ( 7:57:02 hours).

In 1994, he took back after a break in the Ironman Hawaii and arrived with 40 years of the second, with his participation in 1996 to fifth place. He is still an active triathlete, but most of the time working as a coach or commentator. So he trained, among others British triathlete and former Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington.

According to reports, he was during his playing days as a triathlete vegan.

Dave Scott is married and lives with his three children in Boulder (Colorado).

His father Prof. Verne Scott was honored in 2008 for his achievements with induction into the newly founded United States Triathlon Hall of Fame.
