Chris McCormack (triathlete)

Christopher McCormack (born 4 April 1973 in Sydney ) is an Australian triathlete, two-time Ironman World Champion (2007, 2010) and World Champion on the long distance triathlon (2012 ). As the only triathlete he won the world title on both the Short ( 1997) and on the long-range (2007, 2010).

Career

Chris McCormack began in 1996 with triathlon and is now internationally known for numerous wins in Ironman competitions. Prior to his time as a long-distance athlete, he devoted himself to about 2002 predominantly short-haul or " Olympic distance".

In 1997 he was in Perth on the west coast of Australia world champions on the " Olympic distance" (1.5 km swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) as well as sportsman of the year in Australia. In 1997 and again in 2001 he was also nominated in Germany for triathletes of the year.

On 24 June 2007 he tried at the Challenge Roth the long distance world record of Luc van Lierde ( 7:50:27 hours) to break. Until the final discipline he was on course, but then allowed by the high temperatures are a few minutes and scored his fourth win in a Roth in a row with a new personal best time of 7:54:23 hours. In 2008, he reached his fourth victory at the Avia Wildflower Triathlon in California.

In October 2010, he was able to win again after 2007 the World Championship in Hawaii. He was there with his 37 years of Hawaii 's second-oldest winner of all time - only the Americans Mark Allen was at his recent Hawaii victory in 1995, one month older.

His goal for 2012 was a start at the Olympic Games on August 7 in London, and he announced in February 2011 to start again more about the Olympic distance and to renounce a title defense at Ironman Hawaii.
