Daniel Unger

Daniel Unger (born 22 March 1978 in Ravensburg ) is a German professional triathlete and World Champion on the short distance ( 2007). He is in the Hall of Fame German triathletes ( men) out on the Ironman distance.

Sports career

From 1983 to 2004 Unger lived in quantities in the district of Sigmaringen. At the age of five years Unger joined the local football club and with twelve he played in 1990 in his hometown amounts of his first triathlon. As he himself says: " The beginning of a passion," even if the first result - in this competition, he finished ranked 284 among 290 participants - this is not suggest. The following year he became a member of Triathlon department of TV sets under the leadership of its first coach Hermann Kramer. Just one year later Unger was Baden-Württemberg master in his age group and member of the national squad. He was nominated for the Youth National Team in 1993 and the same year took part in the European Youth Championships in Spain.

In 1996 he managed at the European Junior Championships and at the World Junior Championships in Cleveland international breakthrough with placings in the top ten. From 1997 to 2005, he started for the ASICS team Witten. Unger won his first world title in 2000, the military world champion. In 2004 he was qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens but was unable to attend the games due to an illness to mononucleosis.

In 2004 he moved to Bad Saulgau in the district of Sigmaringen in 2005 and moved back to the TV sets. Since 2007 he start for the Hansgrohe team the Black Forest and is sponsored by Hansgrohe since 2008 as a single starter.

2007 won " Ungerman ", as he was nicknamed, the ITU- short-throw World Cup ( 1,500 m swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in Hamburg. He also qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he won the 6th place. Shortly before, 2 August 2008, he was German champion and become German team champion with the Hansgrohe team.

In the spring of 2013, he announced his scheduled start at Ironman Germany in July to the change to the long distance.

He is a member of S- Squad of the German Triathlon Union.

Private

After his graduation in 1997 Unger joined for the next two years the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Mainz. This time was followed by training as a gas fitter and plumber. In 2004, Unger began studying business administration at the University of Albstadt -Sigmaringen, which he exposed due to its sporting successes. Prior to all guests of the victory celebration at the end of the Triathlon World Championships 2007 in Hamburg endurance athlete Daniel Unger has promised his girlfriend to marry her the following year. This promise has redeemed on December 29, 2008 Triathlon World Champion. Ravensburger In the hall of the world champion exchanged with his fiancée Tina Fink from Altshausen the rings. Daniel Unger lives with his wife Tina and son Toni in Braunweiler, district of Bad Saulgau. Since March 2007, Daniel Unger operates in Bad Saulgau a specialty shop for triathletes, runners and endurance athletes. Meanwhile, Daniel Unger is Executive Director of SPORTSFREUND Stores in Ulm.
