Maik Petzold

Maik Petzold ( born January 16, 1978 in Bautzen ) is a German former triathlete.

Career

His first triathlon he graduated in 1990. According to the high-school diploma in 1994 Maik Petzold changed to the Technical High School in Bautzen. After he graduated from high school in 1997 saved, he graduated in the army his military service and joined the beginning of 1998 in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr. In 2001 he began studying Sports Science in Saarbrücken (2001-2002 ) and then he entered again into the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr. Since then, he trained at the Olympic Training Center in Saarbrücken, or in his home Bautzen / Upper Lusatia. Maik Petzold is the official ambassador of Upper Lusatia (since 2005) and is in the Golden Book of the city of Bautzen ( since 2009). Since 2001 he start in the World Cup and in 2009 as the best German third in the short -distance world championship of the International Triathlon Union ( ITU). His coach was from 2009 to 2011 Wolfram Bott and since the autumn of 2011, he was supervised by Wolfgang Thiel.

In August 2011, he reached the third place in the Sprint Triathlon World Championship in Lausanne on the team. In May 2012, he qualified in Madrid for a place at the Olympic Games in London, where he started together with Jan Frodeno and Steffen Justus and the place went to 31.

Prior to the Challenge Kraichgau he announced in June 2013 its intention to terminate his active end of the current season and in July he said after the Challenge Roth his pro career ended. He now lives with his wife and daughter Nadine " Jolanda " in Bautzen.

Clubs

Petzold started in the 1st Bundesliga for the EJOT Team TV Buschhütten.

He started for the team, " London 2012" of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB ) and was a member of the elite team of the German Triathlon Union.
