Triathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics

At the 2012 Olympics in London, two competitions were held in the triathlon on 4 and 7 August 2012 in and around Hyde Park, one for women and men. The Olympic distance triathlon includes 1500 meter swim, 40 km cycling and a 10,000 -meter run. Thus, the competitions are identical compared to Beijing 2008.

The swim was in the Serpentine Lake, the bike course consisted of seven rounds from there to Buckingham Palace and back, the run course consisted of four laps around the Serpentine Lake.

Qualification criteria

There are 110 athletes take part in the competitions every 55 women and men. In each case a quota place was reserved for women and men for the NOC of the host and up to two quota places per gender was awarded the International Triathlon Union ( ITU) by invitation. The eight successful NOCs may each establish three athletes, all others at most two. The following eligibility criteria were considered equally for women and men.

Five quota places were awarded to the winners of the continental qualifying competitions, three more in the top three athletes of the international qualifying competition on 6 and 7 August 2011 in London. 39 athletes were awarded on the ITU Olympic Qualification Ranking, in the most important competitions between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2012 were incorporated. Won quota places
