Vlastimil Babula

Vlastimil Babula ( born October 2, 1973 in Havřice ) is a Czech chess master.

In 1997 he was awarded the grandmaster title. Babula won in 1989 in Brno, the Czech Under-16 Junior Championship, a year later he was third in the Czechoslovak U-18 Championship. In a very successful year in 1993 he was runner-up at the U- 20 World Youth Championship in Kozhikode, the winner in the Championship of the Czech Republic and fourth at the U-20 European Junior Championship in Vejen. Babula played seven times for the Czech national team at the Chess Olympiad, where he scored 36.5 points from 70 games. Four times he played in the European Team Championships.

Babula conquered or occupied top positions in many tournaments: The first place in Open Horni Bečva (1993 ), first place in Bohdaneč (1995), I-VII. Place in Pardubice (1995), I-II. Place in Zlín (1995), I-VI. Place in Zalakaros (1998), the I -IV. Place in Inter-Zone tournament in Krynica meant for him to participate in the knock-out World Cup Groningen in 1999, where he was eliminated in the very first round against Tal Shaked, first place in Open Graz ( 2002), first place in Pardubice (2003), The first place in Olomouc ( 2004), I-II. Place in Pardubice (2007), First Square Havlíčkův Brod ( 2008) in the Championship of the Czech Republic, Teplice Place II ( 2013).

Babula played in the season 2007/2008 and in the 2010/2011 season in the German Bundesliga chess for Werder Bremen and the Austrian Bundesliga 1 for Union Ansfelden. His current number is 2536 (as of November 2010), that he ranked No. 6 Czech rankings.
