The Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig is an entertainment venue for sporting events, concerts, TV productions and congresses at Europe Square in Brunswick. The hall on the brink of civil Park was opened in September 2000 and extended in 2006.

History

On 14 July 1998, the " Sport and Culture Foundation for Brunswick " for the establishment of a multi-purpose hall at Europe Square was founded.

The foundation stone was laid on 20 September 1999 and was attended by 350 guests, the opening took place a year later on 20 September 2000 with a show with 6,000 visitors instead.

From the beginning of the summer of 2006 until the end of autumn 2006, the event hall was rebuilt and enlarged by an addition of about 2000 m². With the addition of the VIP area was considerably enlarged and tried to make the foyer attractive. In addition, within the hall 4 VIP boxes were installed. The conversion took place in order to increase the attractiveness of the hall and to withstand the growing competitive pressure from other more modern buildings.

The hall is home to the home games of the National Basketball League team New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig. In many sporting events, there were problems in the past with the ticket sales directly to the hall. Thus were formed again long queues at the tills and the inlet so that several events had to start later. Many visitors ' lack of organization was criticized.

Other Events

In addition to sporting events and concerts the hall from 2001 to 2009 was also used for the annual break-dance festival " Battle of the Year ". The 133rd edition of the TV show Wetten, dass. was produced here on 26 January 2002, a second time, the show was on November 7, 2009 Guest.
