The Polo BlueMotion has for this purpose an aerodynamically optimized body with spoilers front and rear, nearly closed radiator grille and 15 mm lowering. The additional charge for comparable standard model was 850 EUR (as of January 2009). The rolling resistance is reduced by the use of special low-resistance tires. The 5-speed manual transmission is compared with the identically powered normal variant translated longer in grades 3 to 5, in order to achieve a reduction of the engine speed and therefore lower fuel consumption. For the same reason, the idle speed is lowered. The only use for upcoming 3-cylinder TDI engine with 59 kW of power is fitted as standard to improve the emissions with a particulate filter.

The combination of these measures, the average consumption is 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to a fuel consumption advantage of 0.7 liters compared to the identically powered production version. The CO2 emission is 99 grams per kilometer about 20 grams less than the value of the normal series.

On the technical side of a 1.8 - liter petrol engine with turbocharging and 110 kW ( 150 hp) has power Polo GTI equipped with a sports suspension with a 15 mm lowering and uses the braking system also used in the 96 kW TDI engine with ventilated discs with diameter of 288 millimeters at the front axle and 232 millimeters at the rear axle. The standard safety equipment includes ESP and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Polo GTI Cup Edition

As of June 2006, the once powerful version GTI Cup Edition with 132 kW ( 180 hp ) was offered in addition to the Polo GTI from Volkswagen Individual. Their visual appearance with an aggressive front and rear bumper, wider side sills, a striking roof spoiler and 17- inch alloy wheels is derived directly from the vehicles used in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup. Technically, however, the Polo GTI Cup Edition is based on the normal Polo GTI. The biggest difference besides the altered appearance is adapted to the higher -performance brake system with a disc diameter of 312 millimeters at the front axle.

Polo sedan ( 9N4 )

The notchback variant Polo sedan in 2005 was also subjected to a model upgrade and equipped with the front already known from the hatchback with a V-shaped grille and redesigned taillights. Unlike its predecessor, but it was not available on the European market.

The diesel engines of 47 kW SDI engine, which only satisfy the requirements of the Euro 3 emission standard has been replaced by a TDI engine with 51 kW of power and Euro 4 classification. And the TDI with 55 kW motor was replaced by a more powerful engine with 59 kW.

For the model year 2007, which began in May 2006, accounted for the 63- kW FSI engine. The power of 55 kW petrol engine in conjunction with the 5- speed manual transmission was increased to 59 kW; in combination with the four -speed automatic transmission, however, continued to come for the 55 kW motor used. The petrol engine with 1.4 liter displacement and 74 kW power was replaced by a unit with a displacement of 1.6 liters and 77 kW, which was combined with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission to the 5- speed manual transmission. All diesel engines with the exception of the most powerful unit with 96 kW were now available with a particulate filter.

With the beginning of the model year 2008 in May 2007, the performance of the two 3- cylinder petrol engines was increased with 1.2 liter displacement and 40 kW and 47 kW to 44 kW and 51 kW. The 55- kW petrol engine with four-speed automatic transmission accounted for; the 59- kW motor was instead now also offered with sechsstufigem Tiptronic automatic transmission.
