Volzhsk

Wolschsk (Russian Волжск, mari Юлсер-Ола/Julser-Ola ) is a city in the Republic of Mari El (Russia) with 55 659 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 100 km southeast of the capital of Republic of Yoshkar -Ola on the left bank of the Volga ( Kuibyshev Reservoir ), about 5 km southeast of the mouth of the islet.

Wolschsk is the Republic of subordinated administratively directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

In the area of the present town there was after the 16th and 17th century documents, a Russian settlement Lopatin or Lopatino. In 1940 the place under the present name of a town.
