Vörstetten is a municipality in the district of Emmendingen in Baden- Württemberg, situated a few kilometers north of Freiburg im Breisgau.

Geography

Community structure

The municipality includes the village Vörstetten Vörstetten and the hamlet Schupfholz, the Reute (Breisgau ) and Holzhausen is located about two kilometers northwest of Vörstetten near the neighboring towns, about three kilometers from the motorway exit Freiburg- Nord. In the municipality of Vörstetten are the disposed villages Sulzhof and Tiermendingen.

History

Archaeological findings indicate a settlement of the present-day district Vörstetten after already for the period 7,000 years ago. The first written record comes from the year 993

The heyday Vörstetten in the late 18th and early 19th century. Witness of numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses from this period. Coat of arms

The blazon of the coat of arms of Vörstetten is: In split- front plate in gold ( yellow), a red oblique beams, back in blue a rising golden (yellow ) next to a pile- oriented cancer detected ( silver ) white plow blade.

The coat of arms was detected for the period 1613-1779 as a Seal.

The right (front ) half of the split shield cites the Baden coat of arms that lead to all former Margraviate of Baden - Hachberg belonging communities.

The left ( rear ) part of the crest is the individual coat of arms of the village Vörstetten. The river cancer refers to cancers that were previously available in larger quantities in the local waters Pushed Bach, Mühlbach, food timber Bach, Bach and Rossschwämmebächle belt. The cancer is the oldest part of the coat of arms. Even the rule of Tiefbur in 12-13. Century led to the cancer as an emblem. Of this he seems to have been transferred to the municipal coat of arms. Structures

In Vörstetten about 70 well preserved and maintained half-timbered houses from the period 1770-1820 are emerging which provide a particularly attractive townscape. The Catholic Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe, a new building from 1998 was designed by the architectural firm Freiburg Spieckermann Sautter and with the participation of architects Böwer, Eith and Murken and won an award for exemplary building of the Chamber of Architects Baden- Württemberg.
