Vrbové

Vrbove ( German Vrbau or refurbished Werbau, Hungarian Verbo ) is a city in western Slovakia.

Location and General Description

Vrbove is located in the hills near the river Danube Holečka the foothills of the Little Carpathians, 10 km from Piešťany and 31 km from Trnava. The city was first mentioned in 1332 and belonged to the estate of Castle Čachtice.

Other attractions in the Leaning Tower (deviation 99 cm ), the parish church of St. Martin include ( oldest preserved building in the city ), the Church of St. Gorazd, the Curia of the Moritz Benjowski and a synagogue. Northwest of the town is the small Čerenec reservoir.

According to the census of 2001, there were 6,249 inhabitants, 98.75 % of Slovaks and 0.59% Czechs. Dominant confession was 75.48 % with Roman Catholic, followed by Protestant 10.67 %. 10.80% of the population did not know.
