Vršatské Podhradie

Vršatské Podhradie (Slovak until the 19th century Oršovské Podhradie or Podhradie; German Lowenstein, Hungarian Oroszlánkő - to 1907 Oroszlánykőpodhragy - older Podhrágy ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 246 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which, in Okres Ilava a part of the Trenčín Region is located.

Geography

The community is located within the White Carpathians below the cliff Vršatské bradlá, near the Czech border. The 13.43 km ² municipal area is mostly forested and covered by brown forest soils; The altitude varies from 380 m N.M. N.M. to 926 m ( Mountain Chmelová ). As such, the community is located within the Protected Landscape Area Biele Karpaty. The center is located at an altitude of 650 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Ilava away.

Neighboring municipalities are Cerveny Kamen in the north, Mikušovce in the east, and Tuchyňa Pruské the southeast, Krivoklát in the south, Horne Srnie the southwest, Brumov - Bylnice (CZ ) in the west and Nedašov (CZ ) in the northwest.

History

The oldest settlement of the municipality dates back to the younger Bronze Age, with a settlement and burial place of the Lusatian culture. Later, there were settlements of Púchov Culture and Slavonic from the 9th century.

The present town has developed from a settlement below the castle, Löwenstein (Slovak Vršatecký hrad ); a guard tower was already in 1244 on Castle Hill and oversaw a way to Moravia. The village itself was first mentioned in 1439 as Podhraghye writing and belonged to the manor of Castle Lowenstein, which also Pruské, Bohunice and Mikušovce included next to this place. The owners changed accordingly with those of the castle, some of the later were Jakušić (1577 ), Breuner (1699 ) and Koenigsegg. An explosion in 1707 destroyed almost the whole castle. 1828 were counted 51 houses and 578 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture.

Until 1918, belonged to the county located in the Trenčín place the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia or Slovakia.

1979-1990 Vršatské Podhradie was part of the community Pruské.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Vršatské Podhradie 241 inhabitants, including 240 Slovaks. A resident made ​​no indication. 230 inhabitants pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, three inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church and a resident of the Protestant Church of the Two residents were non-denominational and five inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
