Vuosaari ( swedish Nordsjö ) is a district in the east of the Finnish capital Helsinki. In addition to the areas designated as Vuosaari in the narrower sense it includes, among other things, the areas Rastila, Meri - Rastila, Kallahti and Aurinkolahti. The boundaries of the district (Finnish kaupunginosa ) and the same municipality ( peruspiiri ) are congruent. First incorporated in 1966 in the city, Vuosaari has grown in a relatively short time for both surfaces as well as terms of population, the largest district of Helsinki.

Prior to incorporation, the area was - apart from a few holiday homes and country estates ( Nordsjön kartano, Rastilan kartano ) - almost entirely undeveloped forest. The oldest, created in the 1960s, areas of Vuosaari ( mostly " old Vuosaari ", also called " Central Vuosaari " or " North Vuosaari " called ) are typical representatives of the former Finnish suburban architecture: single, scattered in the forest slab that a to enable as " close to nature " living. The newer areas of Vuosaari (about Kallahti and Aurinkolahti, often collectively referred to as " the center of Vuosaari ") is, however, are built much denser and have an almost " urban " flair. Especially in Aurinkolahti, construction activity continues today unabated brisk. The there was completed in the fall of 2006 Cirrus tower with a height of 92 m the tallest residential building in Finland at all. On the eastern coast of Vuosaari 2008 a new cargo port was completed, which has replaced the older freight ports of Helsinki ( Jätkäsaari, Sompasaari ) and went up to the most important cargo port in Finland.

Since the completion of the metro, in 1998 Vuosaari has excellent transport links to downtown Helsinki. The strengths of the Vuosaari further apply - for suburban conditions - quite good shopping (shopping mall Columbus ) and especially the popular green areas along the sea coast, in particular the nature reserves Uutela, Kallahdenniemi and Mustavuori. Many residents, especially in the "old Vuosaari ", but complain about the continuous construction activity and fear Vuosaari lose definitively its previous close to nature.

The proportion of foreigners is in Vuosaari Finnish standards quite high: 7.7% of the population has foreign citizenship, 11.6% are foreign-born ( 2005).
