Reception

  • Stephen Thomas Erlewine writes on Allmusic.com: "What the Black Crowes have done here is what true journeymen do: They Do not renounce Their past, They build upon it, finding hidden depths within it, shaping tradition after Their Own image to make it sound fresh. They're old- fashioned, but in the best sense. They're in it for the long haul, the superb Warpaint Which Proves beyond a shadow of a doubt " ( The Black Crowes present themselves as true journeymen: Do not deny their past, but to build on it to find hidden depths and shape the tradition in their own image to make them sound fresh, you are old fashioned, but in the best sense: .. proceed on the long haul, what the superb Warpaint proves beyond any doubt )
  • Alan Light wrote on Rollingstone.com: "The Black Crowes have fall out, broken up and been written off as washed -up. They've been around now ... as long as some of Their Own idols were When the Robinsons first started. But with Warpaint, for the first time in a long time, the Black Crowes SEEM like a band with a future. "
  • Andrew Mueller wrote on Uncut.co.uk: "Seven years is a long time, to be sure - but not, It Seems, long enough for The Black Crowes to get around to Significantly expanding palette of Their Influences. At their best ..., though, Black Crowes are silent ringing fabulously true, a continuing and useful reproach against the temptations of obscurantism and irony. "
  • Christian Suggest wrote on intro.de: " The discrepancies of the pair of brothers seem so for the time being settled, the reformed band ( guitarist Luther Dickinson have been added and keyboardist Adam MacDougall ) carries the sound - like at their best a dirty mix of rock, blues, country - before with a lot of soul. With Warpaint the old crows invent of course neither new, nor extend those sound that has become her trademark. The band is simply true to themselves - and that's what makes the new album strong. "
