History

The municipal area of Wilchingen there are several prehistoric traces, in the valley had been a Roman road to Zur Therme ( Bad Zurzach ) and the remains of ramparts against the Germans were found. As possession of the monastery Rheinau Wilechinga was first mentioned in writing in 1049, the settlement was, however, earlier founded by a Alemanni called Willico with his family. 1371/1373 were the Wilchingen advocacies over to the hospital in Schaffhausen, which is managed as a monastery lands and estates on the Klettgauer country. 1515 a separate parish was established after years of squabbling of Wilchingen churchgoers who had to go to church in the neighboring Habsburg Erzingen. The Church of St. Othmar also built in 1515 on a Rebhang above the village and had already expanded in 1588. By ore mining and wine growing, the community was quite wealthy, and the population grew continuously. 1816, the first school house was established in 1845 and already expanded. In 1863 the Badische railway was inaugurated, which was to connect the community to the regional transportation network. 2006, the municipality was merged with Osterfingen Wilchingen.

The first time is the coat of arms coat of arms on a pulley 1569th It represents a knight on foot with flag and shield with white cross dar. Presumably, these here at St. George or Mauritius. In the latter, it could be a confusion with Hallau. In any case, must be some mistake in this coat of arms. A second coat of arms from this period refers to the connection with the Holy Spirit Hospital in Schaffhausen. It is a white cross on black, then hospital coat of arms in wrong colors, dar. The oldest reference to the current coat of arms is found on a coat of arms slice of 1575th It is the upright, silver plowshares, occupied by a red cross on a red constitute grounds 1610 we find the first seal of Wilchingen out with that icon. To date, no other coat of arms is more than these plowshares with the cross. The only change make ornaments (eg laurels or vines) dar. In 1950, the cleanup choice of the emblem with the colors of 1575 was not a topic of discussion.
