Merishausen is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

Geography

Merishausen is located about 7 km north of the capital of the canton of Schaffhausen in Durachtal, nestled between seven hills. Through the village flows the Durach. In the field of Merishausen der Hagen, a part of the Randen and 912 m above sea level lies highest point of the canton of Schaffhausen.

History

In what year the establishment of Merishausen falls is uncertain. The Durachtal is proved to have inhabited at least since Neolithic times (about 2000 BC ) through the Bronze and Iron Ages back. To a proper settlement Merishausen was only when the Alemanni settled made ​​themselves from the 4th century. The name " Merishausen " descended from the Alemanni and may have been derived from the name of an ancestor or clan headman. The oldest spelling is " Morinishusum " meaning " in the homes of the Morin or Maurin ".
