Microsoft Windows Server 2012, working title Microsoft Windows Server 8 is an operating system of Windows series of the software manufacturer Microsoft and the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2.
It is the server version of Windows 8 and was released on September 4, 2012, the further development of Windows Server 2012 R2 in October 2013.
Functions
Surface
Windows Server 2012 uses the new ModernUI surface, which is similar to the interface of Windows Phone 8 and thus better designed for touch screens.
An alternative is the so-called Core installation, which completely eliminates the need for a graphical user interface and configured only through the Windows Command Prompt and PowerShell. The Core installation is the default and provides better performance for applications, particularly when used with Hyper- V or SQL Server.
The third option is to use the minimal server interface. It is a limited graphical interface, with all the graphical administration applications are installed, but not all libraries and settings for adapting the interface.
Task Manager
The Task Manager has been completely revised and thus solves the old off. Inter alia, running applications are classified into categories ( for example, system processes and the metro applications and "normal" applications). SMB 3.0
A further innovation is the support of SMB 3, enabling a faster and more stable access to file shares is possible than with the previous protocol versions. This is primarily aimed at application servers that store their data in a file share, and less on the user and workstation. By SMB 3.0, a client can also maintain its connection to a resource ( file or folder on the file server ) when done within a file server cluster failover from one cluster server to another. Dynamic access control
The Dynamic Access Control (English: Dynamic Access Control DAC) controls access to files through metadata. DAC acts in addition to Active Directory security policies.

IIS 8.0

PowerShell 3.0

Microsoft Windows Azure
