Wittgendorf, Thuringia

Wittgendorf is a municipality in the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt, in Thuringia. The municipality belongs to the administrative community median Schwarzatal, which has its administrative headquarters in the municipality seat village.

Geography

Wittgendorf is above the Sorbitztales in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. The highest mountain in the municipality is the Talberg with a height of 602 m. Neighboring municipalities are Volkmannsdorf, Rohrbach ( in Saalfeld ) and Döschnitz. Below the village rises the Elschnitztalbach, which opens at Rohrbach to four kilometers into the Sorbitz. Nearby towns are Saalfeld / Saale ( 14 km), Rudolstadt (20 km), Jena, Germany (60 km) and Erfurt at 70 km.

History

Wittgendorf was first mentioned in 1267 and is thus one of the oldest towns in the area. He formerly belonged to the Principality of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt. The town was awarded in 1970 as the first municipality in the district of Gera the title "State recognized resort ".

Culture and sights

Natural Monuments

To the municipality Wittgendorf around is the former boundary between the Principality of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt and the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. At the same time more than 200 years old and well over 50 cm high boundary stones mark the boundary of the corridor Wittgendorf to the surrounding communities.

Sports

The Witt Gendorf Volunteer Fire Department in 2003 and 2008 Thuringian champion in fire fighting by the fire brigade.

Regular events

Regular events are organized by the volunteer fire department Auebadpokal in fire attack, the funfair, the Backhaus hard and the maypole with subsequent Maifeuer in May and in September.

Traffic

Alone the county road 136, which starts at the federal highway 281 in Hoheneiche and the " triangle " ends below Döschnitz, runs through the entire city

Public institutions

About two kilometers from Wittgendorf is the Auebad. After a complete rebuilding the forest pool is reopened to swimmers since 2005.
