Wolter Wierbos

Wolter Wierbos ( born September 1, 1957 in Holten, Netherlands) is a Dutch jazz trombonist.

Life and work

Since 1979 he has played in various bands: Cumulus ( with Ab Baars ), JC Tans & Rockets, the Theo Loevendie Quintet, Guus Janssen Septet the Loos (Peter van Bergen ) or the Maarten Altena Ensemble. For years, played Wierbos successfully in the podium trio (Jan Kuiper and Paul van Kemenade ), which was itself named after the eponymous Podiumprijs. He formed his own band, Celebration of Difference and was involved in theater, dance, television and film projects.

Currently, he has a solo project Wollo 's World, which he designed different - from performances with dancer Marije Nie and bassist Wilbert de Joode up to a quartet with Misha Mengelberg, Mats Gustafsson and Wilbert de Joode. He also has a trio with Eckard Coulter and Paul van Kemenade.

He also plays in Misha Mengelberg's Instant Composers Pool Orchestra, the quintet of Gerry Hemingway ( Demon Chaser 1993), Franky Douglas ' Sunchild, Bik Bent Braam, Albrecht Maurer Trio Works, Nocando, Carl Ludwig Hübsch long run development of the Universe, the quartet of Gratkowski, Available Jelly and Sean Bergin's MOB group.

Wierbos completed performances in Europe, North America and Asia. He has also worked with Henry Threadgill, with the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra ( under Alexander of Schlippenbach ), with Cecil Taylor, played with the John Carter Project and the Mingus Big Band. As a guest musician he is with The Ex, Sonic Youth and Gruppo Sportivo just as occurred with the Nieuw Ensemble conducted by Ed Spanjaard.

Recognition

Wierbos has been awarded several times, especially with the Podiumprijs for jazz and improvised music in 1995 with the highly respected Dutch VPRO / Boy Edgar Prize.
