Wyclef Jean

Nelust Wyclef Jean ( born October 17, 1972 in Croix- des-Bouquets, Haiti) is a Haitian musician, songwriter and producer. His music is mainly based on hip-hop. In 2010, he had ambitions to run for the presidency in Haiti.

Life

At the age of nine, Jean moved with his family to the United States in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Together with his cousin Prakazrel " Pras " Michel he founded the band Tranzlator crew and wrote their own songs and lyrics. Although Jean was from the beginning as very talented, success was to establishing the group The Fugees wait ( with Pras Michel and Lauryn Hill ) on you. In 1993 they released their debut album, Blunted on Reality. The big breakthrough came in the trio with their second album The Score in 1996.

Meanwhile, Wyclef Jean has also recorded a song with System of a Downs lead singer Serj Tankian. It is titled Riot and is located on Wyclef Jeans album Carnival II - Memoirs Of An Immigrant, which was released on 23 November 2007 in Germany.

In the years 2008 and 2009, Jean had financial problems. Its beach property in Miami Beach worth 1.4 million U.S. dollars, which had been acquired through his company, was from November 2008 in the possession of a bank. He had taken out a mortgage over two million U.S. dollars for the purchase and renovation of the property, but had fallen behind on his payments. It originated liabilities of more than $ 100,000 for the renovation. The property should be foreclosed on 12 December 2008 in the Court of Miami -Dade County. Wyclef Jean is married, the couple adopted a daughter. Jean has three siblings.

Social Commitment

Jean is committed to his charity organization Yéle Haiti. This has set itself the goal of using music, sports and the media to make small, manageable but effective projects are developed that support the long-term development of Haiti under the aspects of education, health, environment and community work.

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti on 12 January 2010 Jean took on a joint charity single with Mick Jagger and organized for 22 January 2010, a great charity rock concert under the title Hope for Haiti. Other contributors at this show were Christina Aguilera, Sting, Bono, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and George Clooney.

Policy

In the elections of 28 November 2010 Jean had to stand the intention for the presidency of Haiti. After registering as a candidate he told enthusiastic supporters: "I want President Barack Obama said that the United States have Obama and Haiti Wyclef Jean. " Jean has spent five years of his life in Haiti. After a pre-release report of a member of the election committee, Jean did not fulfill all the necessary conditions for admission to the selection and will therefore not put on the list of candidates.
