Yelena Petushkova

Yelena Vladimirovna Petuschkowa (Russian: Елена Владимировна Петушкова; born November 17, 1940 in Moscow, † January 8, 2007 ibid ) was a Russian dressage rider, Sportfunktionärin and biochemist. It was 1970 Dressage World Champion in the individual and in the team competition and two years later, Olympic champion with the Soviet dressage team.

Life

Jelena Petuschkowa was a member from 1964 to 1987 the Soviet dressage team. During this time she won at the Olympic Summer Games 1968 in Mexico City, the silver medal in the team competition. Four years later at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, she was with the Soviet team Olympic Champion in the team competition. In these games, they also finished second in the individual competition.

In 1970, she won at the World Championships in Aachen, both in the individual competition as well with the team. In European Championships she won a silver medal in singles in 1973 and in the years 1971, 1973 and 1979 respectively the silver medal and 1965, 1967, 1969 and 1985 the bronze medal with the team. In addition, she was thirteen times Soviet Champion in dressage. My Trakehner stallion Pepel, they rode from 1964 to 1977 and with whom she met almost all of their great sporting achievements, was in the 1970s as exceptional horse and has legendary status today in the Russian equestrian sports.

Jelena Petuschkowa took over after the end of their active career high ranking positions in various sports organizations. She was from 1983 to 1991 Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee of the Soviet Union, 1996-1999 President of the Russian Equestrian Federation and from 1997 national coach of the Russian dressage team, as well as 1995-2004 chairman of the country group III (former Soviet Union and Southwest Asia ) of the International Equestrian Federation (Fédération Equestre Internationale, FEI ).

In addition to her athletic career Petuschkowa could look back on a successful career as a scientist. After completing secondary school with honors (Gold Medal) in 1957, she attended the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University. There she received her degree in 1963, again with honors, and went to the scientific research institute of pharmacy and medicine. From 1966 to 1976 she was an assistant researcher and 1976-1991 senior researcher at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University. 1991 Petuschkowa senior researcher at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where she worked until 1997. She is the author of more than 60 scientific publications, both in the Soviet Union and internationally, and wrote in 1982 the book " An Introduction to the kinetics of enzymatic reactions ."

Jelena Petuschkowa was the divorced wife of the Olympic champion of 1964 in the high jump Valeri Brumel.
