Yemenia - Yemen Airways (Arabic الخطوط الجوية اليمنية al - chutūt al - dschawiyya al - yamaniyya ) is a Yemeni airline based in Sana'a and a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.

History

The airline was established on August 4, 1961 as Yemen Airlines and began in 1962 with the flight operations. After a reorganization, it was renamed Yemen Airways and elevated to the national airline. On 1 July 1978 it became a joint venture of the Yemeni Arab Republic ( today: Republic of Yemen), and Saudi Arabia. The airline Alyemda based in Aden went there in the newly created company called on Yemenia. Yemenia is today 51% of the Republic of Yemen and to 49% of Saudi Arabia. October 26, 2008, all domestic flights are operated by Felix Airways.

Objectives

Scheduled services to international destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia are offered. In Europe, Frankfurt, Paris, and Rome are served. With the German test flight ban in operation since 1 November 2010 until further flights were conducted more to Frankfurt. This ban was lifted for passenger aircraft, however, for the 13th November.

Incidents

Yemenia recorded in its history, an accident with fatalities:

  • When landing on the archipelago of the Comoros, an Airbus A310 -300 Yemenia crashed on flight IY 626 in the Indian Ocean on 30 June 2009 in the early morning hours. Of the 153 people on board survived only as a 13- year-old girl.
