Yi Mun-yol

Yi Mun - yol ( born May 18, 1948 in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean writer. Yi is one of the most significant and most widely read Korean contemporary writers. His novels and short stories have been translated into many languages.

Life

Yi Mun - yol was born shortly before the outbreak of the Korean War. 1951 the father left the family and ran across to the north. This should characterize Yi's biography crucial because the family was from then on as a politically stigmatized and often was under police surveillance, his academic career was difficult. The visit to the high school in Andong he broke off to make up for his degree after a long illness and homelessness. In 1968 he passed the entrance examination of the Seoul National University (Seoul National University ) and studied until 1970 Koreanistik. From 1994 to 1997 he taught Korean language and literature at the Sejong University and since 1999 has been head of the Buak literature center. Yi Mun - yols literary work has won several awards. He received the 1982 Tong- in Literature Prize, 1987 Yi Sang Literary Prize, the 1992 Hyundae Literature Prize, the Korean Prize for Literature and Art and the French Order of Merit for Culture and Literature. 1998 Literature Prize for the 21st century and 1999, it was " Ho -Am Prize in the Arts " awarded.
