Yukio Kasaya

Yukio Kasaya (Japanese笠 谷 幸 生Kasaya Yukio, born August 17, 1943 in Yoichi, Hokkaidō ) is a former Japanese ski jumper.

He was one of the most successful ski jumpers of the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1970 he was at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Czechoslovak Vysoke Tatry behind the Russians Gari Napalkow vice world champion on the normal hill. 1971/72 he won the Four Hills Tournament, the first three jumping and would have carried the overall victory. However, before the last competition in Bischofshofen, he returned to Japan to prepare for the Winter Olympics, which were held in 1972 in Sapporo, Japan. There he also won on the normal hill gold medal, becoming a Japanese national hero - the silver and bronze medal went to Japan. As part of the Olympic Games this time at the same time the Nordic World Ski Championships were held, Kasaya was the same with his victory world champion on the normal hill.
