Zurab Noghaideli

Zurab Noghaideli (Georgian ზურაბ ნოღაიდელი; born October 22, 1964 in Kobuleti, Adscharische ASSR, Soviet Union) is a Georgian politician (independent) and entrepreneurs. The physicist was November 27, 2003 to February 16, 2005 Minister of Finance of Georgia. From 17 February 2005 until 16 November 2007 he was Prime Minister of Georgia.

Life

After finishing school at the Nikoloz Baratashvili physics and mathematics school in Batumi 1982, he studied at the Moscow State University, Physics. From 1988 to 1992 he worked as a laboratory assistant, and later as a researcher at the Scientific Research Institute Niko Berdsenischwili the Georgian Academy of Sciences in Batumi. 1989 to 1990 he was employed to sample at the Geological Institute of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. In 2002 and 2003 he was a director of the Georgian People's Bank. From April to November 2003, he was a partner in the legal and financial consulting firm Damenia, Warschalomidse, Noghaideli & Kavtaradze in Tbilisi.

First Noghaideli was a member of the Green Party of Georgia, moved in 1995 to the Georgian Civil Union, which supported President Eduard Shevardnadze. Since 2001, he has no party affiliation, but was considered a political ally Zurab Zhvania.

From 1992 to 2000 he was continuously in the Georgian Parliament. Until 1995 he was Chairman of the Parliamentary Environmental Committee, 1996 and 1997 also member of the Supreme Council of Adjara. 2000 he was appointed President Shevardnadze as Minister of Finance. In 2002, he resigned in protest against the policies of the President from office. In September 2003, he co-founded with the late Prime Minister of Adjara Levan Warschalomidse, and later Minister of Justice, Gia Kavtaradze, legal and financial consulting firm Damenia, Warschalomidse, Noghaideli & Kavtaradze ( DVNK ) in Tbilisi. After the Rose Revolution appointed Interim President Nino Burjanadze on 27 November 2003 again to the Minister of Finance. On 17 February 2004, the Georgian parliament confirmed him in office.

On 9 February 2005 President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed him as a candidate to succeed the late Zurab Zhvania, Office of the Georgian Prime Minister. On February 17, he was elected by Parliament by 174 votes to 24, as prime minister. He was also a member of the Board of the Georgian Society for oil and gas ( GOGC ).

International recognition brought Noghaideli the economic policy of his government, the Georgia brought strong growth. The administration of U.S. President told the Prime Minister in 2007 for " best business reformer of the year". Because heart disease is Noghaideli was in April 2007 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital treat in Houston, United States. At operation the aortic valve was implanted him a new here. On 16 November of the same year he submitted his resignation for health reasons as prime minister. Observers see Noghaidelis replacement as Premier but also in connection with the mass anti-government protests from 2 to 7 November 2007.

Temporarily Noghaideli be operated as Chairman of the Group Kala Capital. In December 2008, he founded the opposition party Movement for a fair Georgia. Together with the Conservative Party and the People's Party, he later joined a party alliance together, which took in local elections. 2010 Noghaideli withdrew from politics.

Noghaideli is married and has one child. He speaks Georgian, English and Russian.
