Bussi sul Tirino is a municipality with 2588 inhabitants and is located near Popoli and Collepietro in the province of Pescara.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Bussi Officine and Cirichiello.

Borders the following municipalities: Capistrano, Castiglione a Casauria Collepietro, Corvara, Navelli, Pescosansonesco, Popoli and Tocco da Casauria.

History

The first written mention of the village dates from the 11th century. The village's name derives from the name of the boxwood plant ( buxum in Latin). Originally, the village belonged to the province of L' Aquila, was in 1927 a new church of the province of Pescara. Since 1700 there are several potteries in the community that focus on the art of ceramics. The presence of clay along the river Tirino allows the creation of many works of art. Bussi sul Tirino 2011 in the largest illegal toxic waste dump was discovered in Europe.

Specialty

In the surroundings of the village vines of Montepulciano are grown for the DOC wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
