East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana
The East Baton Rouge Parish (French: Paroisse de Bâton Rouge Est) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 440,171 inhabitants and a population density of 372.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Baton Rouge.
Geography
The Parish is located in the middle of the southeast Louisiana, is located in the north about 40 miles from Mississippi and has an area of 1219 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
The East Baton Rouge Parish was formed in 1810 from parts of the West Florida territory.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 412 852 people in the East Baton Rouge Parish. Of these, 14,584 people lived in collective centers, the other inhabitants living in 156 365 households and 102 575 families. The population density was 350 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 56.17 percent White, 40.09 percent Black or African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 2.08 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.49 percent from other races groups; 0.93 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 156 365 households out of which 32.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.7 percent were married couples living together, 16.8 percent were single mothers, 34.4 percent were non-families, 26.9 percent of all households and 7.2 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.14.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 14.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 20.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 9.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,224, and the median income for a family was $ 47,480. Males had a median income of $ 38,334, women $ 25,073. The per capita income was $ 19,790. 13.2 percent of families 17.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 22.7 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 11.5 percent of those 65 years.
