Vernon Parish, Louisiana
The Vernon Parish (French: Paroisse de Vernon ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 52 334 inhabitants and a population density of 15.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Leesville.
Geography
The Parish is located in western Louisiana and adjacent to the Sabine River, which forms the border with Texas. The Vernon Parish has an area of 3474 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes and Counties:

The Vernon Parish was formed in 1871 from parts of Natchitoches Parish, Rapides Parish of Sabine Parish and the.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Vernon Parish 52 531 people in 18,260 households and 13,713 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 73.70 percent White, 17.06 percent Black or African American, 1.46 percent Native American, 1.58 percent Asian, 0.30 percent Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.50 percent from other races groups; 3.40 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.92 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 18,260 households out of which 42.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.2 percent were married couples living together, 10.7 percent were single mothers, 24.9 percent were non-families, 22.0 percent of all households and 7.3 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 29.1 percent of residents under the age of 18, 14.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 31.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 16.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 7.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 109.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.7 males.
The median income for a household was $ 31,216, and the median income for a family was $ 34,680. Males have a median income of $ 26,451, women $ 20,417. The per capita income was $ 14,036. 12.2 percent of families 15.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 18.6 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 14.8 percent of those 65 years.
