Lafourche Parish, Louisiana
The Lafourche Parish (French: Paroisse de Lafourche ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 96 318 inhabitants and a population density of 34.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Thibodaux.
Geography
The Parish is located in southeastern Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 3813 square kilometers, of which 1004 square miles are water.
The Lafourche Parish is located in the southwestern part of the estuary of the Mississippi. The Parish is crisscrossed by numerous bayous, whose greatest of Bayou Lafourche is. This tributary of the Mississippi River flows through the parish from north to south and ends at Port Fourchon in the Gulf of Mexico.

History
The Lafourche Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes. Until 1812 was the name of Interior Parish, then to 1853 Lafourche Interior Parish.

According to the census in 2000 in Lafourche Parish 89 974 people living in 32 057 households and 24 299 families. The population density was 32 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 82.85 percent White, 12.61 percent Black or African American, 2.30 percent Native American, 0.67 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.58 percent from other races groups; 0.97 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.43 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 32 057 households out of which 37.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 12.4 percent were single mothers, 24.2 percent were non-families, 19.6 percent of all households and 7.8 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.17.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 27.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 10.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.3 percent between 45 and 64 years and 11.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 34,910, and the median income for a family was $ 40,504. Males have a median income of $ 34,600, women $ 19,484. The per capita income was $ 15,809. 13.2 percent of families 16.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 21.9 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.3 percent of those 65 years.
