Ector County, Texas
The Ector County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Odessa.
Geography
The County lies to the west of the geographic center of Texas and is about 30 km from the southeast corner of New Mexico removed. It has an area of 2334 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Andrews County, Midland County, Crane County, Ward County and Winkler County.
History
Ector County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after Mathew Duncan Ector, a Brigadier General of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Ector County 121 123 people in 43 846 households, and 31,700 families. The population density was 52 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 73.69 percent White, 4.61 percent African American, 0.83 percent Native American, 0.64 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 17.38 percent from other races groups; 2.81 percent were descended from two or more races. 42.36 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 43 846 households out of which 38.9 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 54.1 percent were married couples living together, 13.7 percent were single mothers and 27.7 percent were non-families. 24.0 percent of all households and 8.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.25 persons.
30.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.5 percent between 18 to 24, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44, 20.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 31,152, and the median income for a family was $ 36,369. Males have a median income of $ 30,632, women $ 21,317. The per capita income was $ 15,031. 16.1 percent of families and 18.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
