Oldham County (Texas)
The Oldham County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Vega.
Geography
The County is located in northwest Texas, the Texas Panhandle, is bordered to the west by New Mexico, and the north is about 80 miles from Oklahoma away. It has an area of 3889 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hartley County, Potter County, Deaf Smith County and the Quay County, New Mexico.
History
Oldham County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after Williamson Simpson Oldham, a lawyer of the Confederate States of America, who lived in Texas.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Oldham County 2,185 people in 735 households and 565 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.66 percent White, 1.88 percent African American, 1.28 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian, and 4.62 percent from other races; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 11.03 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 735 households out of which 35.1 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 66.7 percent were married couples living together, 8.8 percent were single mothers and 23.0 percent were non-families. 21.0 percent of all households and 10.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02 persons.
35.0 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.2 percent between 18 to 24, 23.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 108.1 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.
The median income for a household in the 33 713 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family was $ 39,091. Males had a median income of $ 26,845, women $ 20,185. The per capita income was $ 14,806. 10.5 percent of families and 19.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
