Wharton County, Texas

The Wharton County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wharton.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Texas, about 50 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​2835 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Austin County, Fort Bend County, Brazoria County, Matagorda County, Jackson County, Lavaca County and Colorado County.

History

Wharton County was formed in 1846 from parts of Colorado County, Jackson County and Matagorda County. It was named after William Harris Wharton and John Austin Wharton, two brothers and leaders in the Texas Revolution.
