Robert A. Childs

Robert Andrew Childs ( born March 22, 1845 in Malone, Franklin County, New York, † December 19, 1915 in Hinsdale, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1852, Robert Childs came with his parents to Belvidere, Illinois, where he later attended the public schools. During the Civil War he served as a soldier in a Infanterieregeiment from Illinois, which belonged to the army of the Union. After the war he continued his education. In 1870 he graduated from the Illinois State Normal University. After that, he was from 1871 to 1873 in Amboy Board of Education. After studying law and his 1872 was admitted to the bar he began in Belvidere to work in this profession. In 1873 he moved to Hindsdale near Chicago. There he was a member of the council and the school committee.

Politically, Childs joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1892 he was in the eighth election district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Lewis Steward on March 4, 1893. Since he resigned in 1894 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1895.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Robert Childs practiced as a lawyer again. He died on 19 December 1915 in Hinsdale.
