William H. Gest

William Harrison Gest ( born January 7, 1838 in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois; † August 9, 1912 in Rock Iceland, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1842, William Gest moved with his parents to Rock Iceland. He later studied at Williams College in Williamstown (Massachusetts ), which he completed in 1860. After a subsequent law degree in 1862 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Rock Iceland to work in this profession. Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1886, Gest was in the eleventh electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William H. Neece on March 4, 1887. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1891 two legislative sessions. In 1890 he was not re-elected. Since August 1897 until his death on 9 1912 Gest judge was in the 14th Judicial District of Illinois.
