Saint-Élie

Saint- Élie is a commune of 420 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Overseas Territory French Guiana to the north of South America. From 1930 to 1946 she was the capital of the French colony Inini.

Geography

Saint- Élie is located in the north-central French Guiana. The territory includes part of the densely wooded highlands of Guyana. In the municipality stems from the River Sinnamary. In the border area to the same community Sinnamary, north of Saint- Élie, is the dam ( Barrage de Petit- Saut ). The resulting therefrom artificial lake has an area of ​​approximately 350 km ² and is the largest artificial lake in France. Besides Sinnamary borders Saint- Élie the north by Iracoubo, in the west of mana and Saul, to the south and to the east by Régina Roura and Kourou. The highest point is the Montagne de la Trinité ( 636 m).

Traffic

Saint- Élie is not connected to the road network of French Guiana. Also no navigable river is located in the vicinity. Thus, the community for people is only accessible by helicopter.
