Saint-Georges, French Guiana

Saint- Georges, often also Saint- Georges -de- l'Oyapock, is a commune with 3946 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Overseas Territory French Guiana, which is located in the north of South America.

Geography

The municipality of Saint- Georges is located in the east of French Guiana. The river forms the eastern boundary Oyapock to Brazil, also bordering Saint -Georges to the south by Camopi, to the west and to the north by Régina Ouanary. The main settlement of the municipality is located on the Oyapock, and on the other side of the river is the Brazilian city Oiapoque, which is located in the state of Amapá. In addition to the embankment of the municipality of Saint -Georges comprises a part of the densely wooded highlands of Guyana.

Traffic

For French- Guyanese ratios Saint -Georges is a very good transport developed. Since 2003, the National Route 2 ( RN2 ) connects the town with the capital Cayenne.

A continuation until after Oiapoque in Brazil, the first road link between French Guiana and the rest of South America in general, has come through the construction of a bridge over the Oyapock within reach. The bridge was completed in mid-2011, but not yet released for administrative reasons and because of the lack of completion of an access road to traffic.

In Saint -Georges, there is also a small airfield, regional flights offers. In addition, the Oyapock is used as a transport route.
