William N. Sweeney

William Northcut Sweeney ( born May 5, 1832 in Liberty, Casey County, Kentucky, † April 21, 1895 in Owensboro, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Sweeney attended the common schools and the Bethany College in present-day West Virginia. After a subsequent law studies and his 1853 was admitted to a lawyer, he began to practice in this profession in Liberty. In the years 1854-1858 was Sweeney prosecutor in Daviess County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1860 he was one of the electors who voted in the presidential election of Stephen A. Douglas.

In the congressional elections of 1868 Sweeney was in the second electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel McKee on March 4, 1869. In 1870, he was set up by his party for another term in Congress; He rejected this nomination from however. Therefore, he was able to complete only one term in the U.S. House of Representatives until March 3, 1871. After the end of his time in Congress, he worked as an attorney in Owensboro. He is also passed on 21 April 1895.
