William Singleton Young

William Singleton Young ( * April 10, 1790 in Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky; † September 20, 1827 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Young was the older brother of Bryan Rust Young (1800-1882), who also was a congressman for Kentucky 1845-1847. He was also an uncle of John Young Brown (1835-1904), who represented 1859-1877 twice Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives. Young originally studied medicine. After a later studied law at the University of Louisville and his admission to the bar he began to work in Bloomfield in this profession. In 1814 he moved his practice and to Elizabethtown.

As a non-party candidate he was in the congressional elections of 1824 in the eleventh electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Philip Thompson on March 4, 1825. After a re-election in 1826, he could remain until his death on September 20, 1827 in Congress. However, he died before the first meeting of existing since March 4, 1827 the new Congress. He was buried in the cemetery of Elizabethtown.
