1924–25 WCHL season

The 1924/25 season was the fourth regular season of the Western Canada Hockey League ( WCHL ). Masters were the Victoria Cougars.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Vancouver Maroons were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Victoria Cougars were added as an expansion team in the league.

Mode

In the regular season, six teams each completed 28 games. The three top-ranked teams then played in the playoffs in return game against each other, the team progressed with the better goal difference from two games. First played the second - to third-placed, then the winner came out of this duel against the winners for the title and a place in the Stanley Cup Challenge. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

Before the season, the Pacific Coast Hockey Association was disbanded after 13 years and the two remaining teams from Vancouver and Victoria joined the WCHL at. While Vancouver had some problems to find their way in the new league, Victoria succeeded to collect third in the playoff semifinals, where you ausschaltete the Saskatoon Sheiks 6-4 gates. Subsequently, the team managed a 3-1 goals against the Calgary Tigers in the first year of winning the WCHL championship and qualifying for the Stanley Cup Challenge. Mickey MacKay was top scorer with 27 in the league, while Bill Cook was top scorer with 34 points.

Stanley Cup Challenge

In the best-of -five series for the Stanley Cup, the Victoria Cougars prevailed 3-1 wins against the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League. Thus, they were the only team of the WCHL could ever win the Stanley Cup and the last out of the NHL, who won the Cup.
