1925–26 WHL season

The season 1925/26, was the fifth and last regular season of Western Hockey League ( WHL). Masters were the Victoria Cougars.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Regina Capitals stopped the game operation.
  • The Portland Rosebuds were added as an expansion team in the league.

Mode

In the regular season, six teams each completed 30 games. The three top-ranked teams then played in the playoffs in return game against each other, the team progressed with the better goal difference from two games. First played the second - to third-placed, then the winner came out of this duel against the winners for the title and a place in the Stanley Cup Challenge. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

The league changed before the season its name from Western Canada Hockey League in Western Hockey League. This one was the inclusion of the U.S. teams Portland Rosebuds, which replaced the defunct Regina Capitals, invoice. As in the previous year was largely the Victoria Cougars for a third place in the regular season winning the WCHL championship and qualifying for the Stanley Cup Challenge. First you had the Saskatoon Sheiks 4-3 off in the semifinals and eventually in the final the Edmonton Eskimos 5-3 gates. For financial reasons, the league was disbanded after the season and sold the rights to all teams in the National Hockey League, two years earlier remained so after the abolition of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association as the only major league hockey.
