1978 World Women's Handball Championship

The 7th Handball World Championship for Women was held in Czechoslovakia from 30 November to 10 December 1978. A total of twelve teams entered in the preliminary round in three sets against each other. After the final round followed in a group, the sites were 1-6 pitted, and placement matches in a group for the places 7-9. The GDR was able to defend her title in 1975 and successfully turn referred the Soviet Union and Hungary to the places.

The best two teams of each group qualified for the final round, and the third for the placement round.

The matches of Group B were held in Trnava.

The Games of the placement round were played in Bratislava.

Final Round (seats 1-6)

When carrying out in Bratislava final round, the results were taken from the direct duels of the preliminary groups.

The teams ranked 1-5 qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
